What beats what in poker?– Know your Poker Hands!

Knowing all the poker hands – and what beats what - is a basic poker skill you'll need to have. Here are the poker hands in rank, from lowest to highest.“ Let us bring FUN to the table”

High Card
When you don't have at least one pair, your hand is called ‘High Card'. The highest card is an Ace and the lowest is a 2.If 2 or more players have a High Card, the player with the highest card wins. If high cards are the same, the next highest card is compared and so on. If all cards are the same value the pot is split.

Pair
One pair of any card-type. The best Pair is two Aces and the lowest is a Pair of 2s. If 2 or more players have a Pair, the player with the highest pair wins. If the pair is the same, the player with the highest “kicker” (3 rd card) wins. If the kicker is the same, then it moves to the 4 th card and then the 5 th card. If all 3 cards are of the same value the pot is split.

Two Pairs
Two pairs – each of a different card type*. The best Two Pairs hand is a Pair of Aces + a Pair of Kings. The lowest Two Pairs hand is a Pair of 2s + a Pair of 3's. If 2 or more players have Two Pairs, the player with the best higher pair wins. If both players have the same higher pair, the player with the best lower pair wins. If those are also the same, the player with highest kicker (5 th card) wins. If the kicker is also the same, the pot is split.

Three of a Kind
Three of the same card type. If 2 or more players have Three of a Kind, the higher value card that is three of a kind wins. If 2 or more players have a Three of Kind of the same value the player with the highest kicker (4 th card) wins. If the kicker is the same, it moved to the 5 th card.  If both cards are the same, the pot is split.

Straight
5 cards in numerical order and not of the same suit. An Ace can be played high or low, so a sequence of 5 can happen anywhere along the line A,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,J,Q,K,A. The best Straight hand is 10,J,Q,K,A which is called “Ace High”.If 2 or more players have a Straight, the player with the highest card in the straight wins. If that card is the same, the pot is split.

Flush
5 cards of the same suit and not in numerical order.If 2 or more players have a Flush, the pot is determined by the highest card scenario as above.

Full House
Three of a Kind and a Pair. In a Full House, the Three of a Kind component is most important; the best Full House is 3 Aces + 2 Kings – which is called “Aces Over Kings”. If 2 or more players have a Full House, the player with the best Three of a Kind component wins. If both players have the same Three of a Kind component, the player with the best Pair component wins. If those are also the same, the pot is split.

Four of a kind (‘Quads')
4 of the same card-type. If 2 or more players have Four of a Kind, the player with the best kicker (5 th card) wins. If the kicker is also the same, the pot is split. This can only happen if all four cards are central cards.

Straight Flush
5 cards of the same suit and in numerical order without Ace-High. If 2 or more players have a Straight Flush, the player with the highest card wins. If that's also the same, the pot is split. (Note: this scenario would only occur if the 5 common cards make up the straight flush and the2 private cards are not used.)

Royal Flush
A straight flush that ends in an Ace. 5 cards of the same suit and in numerical order with Ace-High.
